Privacy Policy — SignalMetrics

The short version: SignalMetrics is a local diagnostic tool. It has no accounts, no ads, and no tracking. Your scans, test results and reports stay on your device. The only information that ever leaves your phone is the network traffic of the speed test itself, sent to Cloudflare. Geek Fix does not collect, store, sell or share your personal data.
Who we are
SignalMetrics ("the app") is provided by Geek Fix ("we", "us", "our"), a networking and WiFi installation business based in Yorkshire, United Kingdom. This policy explains how the app handles information. If you have any questions, contact us at info@geekfix.uk.
What the app does
SignalMetrics is a WiFi and network diagnostic utility. It measures internet speed, scans the local network you are connected to in order to list devices, and can produce a PDF survey report. It is designed to run on demand — nothing runs in the background.
Information stored on your device
The following is created and stored locally on your device only, and is never transmitted to Geek Fix:
- Speed-test results (download, upload, ping, jitter) and any pass/fail targets you set;
- Network-scan results (device IP addresses, open ports, hostnames and similar details of devices on the network you are testing);
- Property/site names and test history you choose to save;
- PDF reports you export.
This data remains on your device. Removing it is entirely in your control: clearing the app's data or uninstalling the app deletes it. We hold no copy.
Information sent over the internet
To function, the app makes one kind of outbound network request:
- Speed testing — the app exchanges data with Cloudflare (speed.cloudflare.com) to measure your connection speed. As with any internet request, this involves your connection's public IP address being visible to Cloudflare, and is handled by Cloudflare under Cloudflare's privacy policy. That IP address is also matched, entirely on your device, against a table of UK network ranges bundled inside the app, so the app can show the likely provider your connection is using. This matching makes no further network request and uses no external lookup service or registry — nothing about your connection is sent to Geek Fix or anyone else. The app shows a "likely" provider rather than a definite one, because the company you pay for your broadband isn't always the company that runs the network behind it.
We do not operate any servers that receive your data. The app has no analytics, no advertising, and no third-party tracking software of any kind. There is no advertising identifier collected or used.
Photos: If you attach a photo to an access-point record, the image is captured using your device's camera or chosen from your gallery, resized and stored locally on your device, and included only in reports you export. Photos are never uploaded to Geek Fix or any third party.
Permissions the app requests, and why
- Location (approximate & precise) — Android requires location permission before any app can read WiFi network details (such as the network name and nearby access points). SignalMetrics uses it solely to perform WiFi and network diagnostics. Your location is not tracked, recorded, stored, or shared, and the app does not use location in the background.
- WiFi and network state / control — to read network information and perform scans and speed tests, including multicast discovery of devices.
- Internet — to run the speed test described above. (The likely-ISP identification is done on-device and makes no network request of its own.)
- Storage — to save PDF reports you choose to export.
- Camera — used only to attach photos of installed access points to your reports. Images stay on your device.
- Vibration — for haptic feedback within the app.
Responsible use
SignalMetrics is intended for use on networks that you own or have permission to test. You are responsible for ensuring you have authorisation to scan or test any network you use it on.
Children
SignalMetrics is a professional diagnostic tool intended for a general adult audience. It is not directed at children.
Data retention and deletion
Because all app data is stored locally, we do not retain any of your data on our side. You can delete everything at any time by clearing the app's data or uninstalling it.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The "last updated" date above reflects the current version. Material changes will be reflected on this page.
